Air suspension. And whether it’s had the obligatory engine-out turbo replacement and/or oil change recently.

- When has the timing belt/tensioner/waterpump/etc been done?

- Have the cam chain tensioners ever been replaced?

- Has the intake/vacuum system ever been smoke tested for leaks?

- When has the transmission had a fluid change? Rear diff?

- Original or non-original clutch?

- Original turbos?

- Hows that suspension health, has it ever been repaired or replaced?

- Do the windows work right or will one or more need a regulator?

- What does it leak? Where? Why?

INB4 JKM. DON’T BUY IT.

You’ll be kicking yourself every time it’s in the shop for some dumb little thing that went wrong.

With my multi-step program, your Audi/VW will last at least another 50,000 mi before needing the same repairs again.

Besides brakes and some other normal wear items, I’d have to say no. Don’t get me wrong, I looooooooove the All Road, but damn they’re so unreliable. A friend of mine has one and it’s been a total bitch to maintain. The air suspension on it is a joke. Been out three or four times in the two years he’s owned it. Little electrical problems happen from time to time as well. I would never suggest an All Road to anyone besides an Audi mechanic haha

You might get lucky and find a dry example. Its just the hereditary parts that fail between all Audi.

About 3 times so far, no allroad yet.

B5 A4, B6 A4 and now currently a D2 A8L

and how has that gone for you? do you think this would be better or worse than a similarly aged Jaguar XJ8

I believe I’ve found happy medium because I’m aware of what can and will fail on most of em. High mileage older Audi/VW will have random issues pop up and you must be prepared for it mentally/financially. You have keep an eye on how the car is doing on a daily basis. You can totally wrench on these things too but that all depends on your dedication level.

Concerning your Jag question, I cant really say because I’ve not owned a Jaguar XJ8. However, I can say that the web community, part supply and aftermarket support is huge for Audi/VW product. I dont believe that is the case for Jaguar.

Ask about the valve body for the air suspension. Also timing belt. besides that everything else is just normal* maintenance whoas. (like boost leaks, leaking valve covers, etc.) If you know someone with a VAG Com, that would help with checking if there are any soft fault codes (soft codes dont trigger a CEL)

Yeah the Valve body is the main source of problems with that, especially as it gets colder, it gets estra sticky. Also if youre not afraid to wrench there are writeups for just about everything there is to do on these. The 2.7 is a whore of a motor in that regard.
